Your First Podcast Studio Session: What to Bring and How It Works
From arrival to files in hand: what happens during a studio recording, and how to walk in ready.

A first studio session feels like a big step. It is simpler than it looks: the studio handles the technical side, and your job is the conversation. Here is how a session works and what to bring.
Before the day
- Outline, don't script. Three to five talking points and a strong opening question keep the conversation moving without sounding read.
- Confirm your guests. Send them the address, the time and what to wear. If someone joins online, test their link the day before.
- Bring your intro and outro if you have them, or ask the studio to make one from your session.
What to bring
- Your outline, on paper or a tablet that stays silent.
- Two outfit options in solid colors. Avoid fine stripes and small patterns: they shimmer on camera.
- Water (room temperature is kindest to your voice).
- Any product, book or prop you want on camera.
How the session runs
- Setup. The technician seats you, sets microphone positions and checks levels while the cameras and lights are adjusted.
- A quick sound check. Say a few sentences at your normal volume. Talk as you would at dinner, not on stage.
- Recording. The technician watches levels and cameras so you don't have to. If you stumble, pause and say the sentence again; it is easy to cut.
- Wrap. Depending on your package, you get your files the same day or the studio moves on to the edit.
Small things that make a big difference
- Keep a fist's distance from the microphone and speak across it, not into the top.
- Look at your co-host or guest, not at the cameras. The angles are set to catch the conversation.
- Put your phone on airplane mode, not just silent.

Can a guest join from home?
